The Government has awarded the area further funding in the fight to reduce homelessness and rough sleeping.
North East Lincolnshire Council was successful in bidding for a slice of a £111-million fund from the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government.
The council was awarded £476,750 from the Rough Sleeping Initiative Fund to support existing services being delivered by the Council and its partners, including:
- The Harbour Place night shelter and street outreach services
- Dedicated substance misuse and mental health support.
- Specialist ‘navigators’ to help rough sleepers to access the right services and support.
- Continuing a scheme to get former rough sleepers into accommodation.
Councillor John Fenty, deputy leader and portfolio holder for regeneration, skills and housing, said: “Homelessness and rough sleeping is sadly a problem many councils are facing. I’m thrilled that we have been awarded this funding from the Government because it will really help us to continue the great work our officers and partner agencies are doing day in, day out, to help people who are going through some difficult times.
“Unfortunately funding for this support is just one part of the solution. We need to people to let the Council know as soon as they think there is a risk of them becoming homeless. We also need people who are sleeping rough in our area to work with us and accept support.”
