Areas of Cleethorpes are to receive a special spruce-up ahead of the Christmas period, thanks to the Government’s Welcome Back Fund.
Eco Removal Systems will be on the streets, removing unsightly chewing gum deposits that have built up in areas of high footfall.
Over approximately 20 days, chewing gum will be removed from three areas of focus: High Street, between Barclays Bank and Sea Road, Sea Road itself and the main thoroughfare of St Peter’s Avenue.
The pavement will be cleaned using specialist measures – eco-friendly detergent is pumped into a boiler/heater for heating. Once it has reached optimal temperature, the detergent is then shot out of the attached lance at approximately 95-100 degrees, quickly vaporising the gum with minimal effort.
Due to the method used, there will be no need for pavements to be cordoned off, so less disruptive to shoppers in the run up to the Christmas period.
Cllr Callum Procter, Cabinet member for tourism, said:
“This funding is one off, and a chance for us to work on improving some problem areas. Chewing gum deposits are notoriously hard to remove, so we thought we’d take the opportunity and get rid of a bit of a build up. However, the best thing, of course, would be for people to use litter bins rather than the floor!”
Work will be starting on 22 November and will be completed by Christmas.
The work has been funded through the Government’s Welcome Back Fund, part of the ERDF funded covid recovery scheme across the UK.
