‘Continuing the journey of improvement for children and adult services, while working with partners and stakeholders to further regenerate North East Lincolnshire’.
These are the over-arching priorities of North East Lincolnshire Council and were outlined by councillors who approved both the Council Plan and the annual budget at a meeting this week.
The Council Plan outlines the ambitions of all major service areas over the next three to five years and was the first of the two items to be formally approved at Full Council last night, (Thursday February 24).
Supporting its contents, Leader Cllr Philip Jackson talked about the aspirations to overcome challenges and support the area as it moves forward.
“This is a time of great opportunity for North East Lincolnshire. Economic growth is being fuelled by the renewable and low carbon energy sectors, alongside major investment in ports and logistics.
“The most recent and significant development has been the establishment of the Humber Freeport. Our flagship seafood sector and chemical manufacturing also remain important to the Borough,” he said.
“We must now work hard along with our key partners, who have helped develop this plan, to ensure that those living within our communities can benefit, raising aspirations across the board. We know this will be more difficult in some areas, with significant challenges in our most deprived wards,” added Cllr Jackson.
Councillors went on to approve the budget, which aligns to the Plan, and includes an increase in Council Tax of 1.98 per cent with a further 1 per cent for Adult Social Care.
