The final works between Grimsby A180 Westgate and Lockhill roundabout are almost complete.
This section of the Cycle Superhighway will soon be finalised once works to extend the height of the safety barrier on both sides of the carriageway on the flyover at Lockhill roundabout are complete. This is to ensure the safety of cyclists.
The work was postponed due to a delay in the contractor receiving the materials due to the pandemic, but all materials have now arrived and the works can be carried out.
The works will be completed under a single lane closure, which will be coned off, during off-peak times, between 9.30am and 3.30pm, Monday to Friday only, and will start on Wednesday 18 August for up to two weeks.
It is hoped that by only closing the lane when needed that this should help traffic flow when the contractor is not on site working and during weekends when the two lanes can once again be reopened.
The construction of the cycleway on the westbound carriageway is now complete, so this is the final outstanding piece of work on this section of the £2.6m project. The new cycleway has also been installed on Hobson Way in Immingham.
The final new section of cycleway will then be constructed on the A1173 Immingham to Stallingborough carriageway, starting in late autumn.
When complete, the full project will see a total of 3.8km of new off-road cycleway constructed across the three locations to give cyclists a safe and sustainable route across the South Humber Bank to access work and training facilities.
£2.2m of the funding came from the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise Partnership (GLLEP), with £400,000 contributed by the council and private sector.
