North East Lincolnshire Council is warning people not to fly-tip or dump waste at ‘bring to’ recycling banks this Christmas holiday.
There are about 40 ‘bring-to’ recycling banks across the borough at busy locations such as supermarkets and car parks. They are located in convenient places for people to recycle reasonable amounts of cans, glass, paper and plastic.
But people have been known to abuse some of the sites by leaving rubbish outside the recycling banks.
Sites are monitored with CCTV and signs are in place to warn people they can be fined if caught fly-tipping. There will also be regular patrols in place by enforcement officers.
Councillor Ron Shepherd, portfolio holder for safer and stronger communities, said: “Piles of rubbish left at these sites is unacceptable, unsightly, and could attract rats. Some of the items dumped at these sites are not items that would go in your household waste bin.
“If a ‘bring-to’ site is full, do not just throw your rubbish outside it onto the ground as crews have to be diverted from whatever else they are doing to come and clear it. Instead, take your waste to one of the community recycling centres in Estuary Way, Grimsby, or Queens Road, Immingham.”
Fly-tipping is a crime and the council investigates all incidents. Anyone who is caught risks a £400 fixed penalty notice. Where we find enough evidence that can be used, we will take offenders to court.

The number of recycling banks has recently been reduced as some of the sites were underused, while others were used to illegally dump all kinds of other rubbish such as fridges, building waste and food waste.
