New temporary planters have been installed across North East Lincolnshire’s key shopping areas, thanks to the Government’s Welcome Back Fund.
With the aim of helping its high streets ‘bloom’ back to life following the Covid pandemic. The flowers which comprise of a mixture of summer and winter bedding plants are intended to provide beautiful floral displays across the borough.
Planting has been designed to complement the work already in motion, through community and town groups, such as Grimsby, Old Clee, Great Coates and Immingham in Bloom.
Cllr Callum Procter, Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth, Housing and Tourism, said, “It’s encouraging to see such a warm welcome back to the high streets, with activities such as the flower displays across the borough from the Welcome Back fund.
“We are still encouraging safety measures to be in place to make sure that we keep life moving and keep North East Lincolnshire trading safely, but I’m sure that businesses and retailers are enjoying seeing visitors return to the area, and we’re trying to do what we can to help.”
Retailer Jane Halliday, Betty McKenzie Boutique, Market Street Cleethorpes, praised the activity, “After what’s been a difficult time for the high street, it’s great to welcome visitors back to the high street- the flower displays are a welcome addition to add colour and vibrance, helping to bring sparkle back to the shopping areas.”
Elaine Atkinson, from Grimsby in Bloom, said, “Our aimis to encourage people to take care and pride in their community through gardening, horticultural excellence and environmental initiatives. As a team we work hard to improve and enhance the local area so it’s been fantastic to see the Council helping to put these displays in place.”
Lisa Logan, Strategic Lead for the environment at the Council, echoed the comments. “Flowers are a great way to brighten up areas, but they also cost a lot of money to purchase, install and maintain. We’ve been lucky to secure the funding for this year.
“We welcome business sponsorship as we work to keep the areas in bloom all year round, for any businesses that would like to support with sponsorship opportunities, we’d love to hear from you.”
Locations of the current installations include, Cleethorpes promenade, St Peter’s Avenue, Cleethorpes Market Place, Grimsby Flyover, Grimsby Top Town and Weelsby Cops (Weelsby Road).
