A layby on Hewitt’s Avenue has been permanently closed with the installation of fencing, gates and new kerbs to deter fly-tippers.
The layby was temporarily closed in 2018 to prevent access following reports of fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour in the layby. Since then, a legally-binding Traffic Regulation Order gave the go-ahead for the permanent closure of the site.
All existing vehicle access has been removed. New kerbs, drainage, topsoil, fencing and gates are now installed to secure the layby closure.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport, said: “This is a much-needed step to combat the recurring problems of fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour at the Hewitt’s Avenue layby site.
“Local residents deserve a safe, more attractive space and this delivers that need. It will also help stop dangerous substances such as chemicals and asbestos from being dumped at the site, which is a threat to people and wildlife.”
