Get your nominations in for this year’s Civic Awards

The best in North East Lincolnshire is being celebrated – by the Civic Awards 2021, launched in May by the new Mayor.

The main aim of the scheme is to shine a light on people and organisations who are truly making a difference in our community.

The Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Councillor David Hasthorpe, said: “We are looking for individuals or groups living or working within the borough who deserve recognition for their outstanding achievements and contributions. 

“These are new awards for 2021 and are an opportunity for the Civic Office to officially recognise the commitment and hard work of those who strive to make a positive difference to the lives of others.”

There are nine categories to nominate in:

Community Together Award. For individuals, community groups or organisations involved in bringing communities together through a local project or community event or who have excelled within their communities. The winner will have demonstrated how they have used others’ potential and strength to help people help themselves and others.

Sponsor: Grimsby Fish Merchants Association. Representative Simon Dwyer, said: “North East Lincolnshire has 5,500 people working every day in the fish and seafood processing community – a community that underpins the wider communities of our borough.”

Creative Excellence Award. For those who have helped raise the profile of arts in the borough, helping to make things happen and giving our communities the chance to express themselves creatively.

Sponsor: Healing Manor. Director Charlotte Bennett said: “It is so important to champion creatives in North East Lincolnshire and really showcase the incredible talent and hard work that happens across North East Lincolnshire.”

Sporting Achievement Award. For a person, group or organisation that has helped create a lasting sporting legacy, encouraged participation, and promoted sport.

Sponsor: the Humberside Police & Crime Commissioner.

Youth Sporting Achievement Award: The winner will be a young individual or youth-led community group or organisation that is helping to create a lasting sporting legacy.

Sponsor: Forrester Boyd Wealth Management: Marketing manager Alison Mitchell said: “Community engagement, sports and mental health and wellbeing are more important now than ever, so we are thrilled to see our youth recognised for their contributions.”

Environmental Achievement Award: For an individual or group that has worked to celebrate, improve, and protect the environment in which they live and who voluntarily strive to improve the outdoor environment for their communities.

Sponsor: Dalkia Wastenergy. Managing Director Sharon Hunt said: “In sponsoring this award, we wish to congratulate everyone in this area who has participated and continues to do their bit in helping to save the environment.”

Youth Environmental Achievement Award: For an individual under 21, or a youth-led community group or organisation that has worked to protect our local environment, striving to enhance our local outdoor spaces.

Sponsor: Dalkia Wastenergy

Young Achiever Award: To celebrate an inspirational person, under 21, who has made an outstanding contribution by volunteering with the community – demonstrating leadership, dedication, and enthusiasm.

Sponsor: YMCA Humber. Head of People & Policy Kate Conway said: “We believe everybody has potential to unlock. Supporting young people to achieve their ambitions is the foundation of all the work we do at YMCA Humber.”

Business in the Community Award: This award recognises the businesses that have invested in North East Lincolnshire’s communities through sponsorship or other forms of support to make it a better place to work, play and stay.

Sponsor: E Factor Group Ltd. Managing director Mark Webb said: “We have sponsored this award because we realise how important local business is to the future of our community.”

Healthy Living Award: For an individual or community group that has improved the health and wellbeing of people or communities in North East Lincolnshire, be it physical, mental, emotional, or social.

Sponsor: Ish Fish. Company representative Garry Bainbridge said: “We believe in putting back and this fits very much with our ethos and what we are trying to achieve.”

The Mayor’s Award for Outstanding Achievement: Specially selected by the Mayor and not open for public nomination, this will celebrate someone for their outstanding contribution and dedication to the borough.

Sponsor: JemBuild. Managing Director Paul Barker said: “Growing up locally and developing a construction business over the last 10 years, I am delighted to be a sponsor. I see such awards as having a hugely positive effect on those nominated – knowing they are recognised for what they do.”
