North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner, ENGIE, will be carrying out improvement works to a number of bus stops across the borough from Monday (February 24).
The works will take eight weeks to complete on a rolling programme and will see existing kerbs raised to improve accessibility for bus users.
The works will be carried out under localised traffic management using cones and barriers.
The improvements will take place in the following locations:
- One bus stop on Freeman Street, Grimsby.
- Two bus stops on Kingsway, Cleethorpes.
- Two bus stops on Ellis Way, Grimsby.
- Three bus stops on Bargate, Grimsby.
Every effort will be made to avoid the need for temporary traffic signals as bus stop improvements on Kingsway are carried out. However, there may be stages during the works when temporary traffic signals are required to ensure a safe working area for the contractors, if temporary traffic signals are required they will be in place between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
Working with local operators through the North East Lincolnshire Bus Quality Partnership, the raised kerb improvements aim to improve accessibility to the bus network and encourage more people to use buses.
Many modern buses can now lower their step height at bus stops and raised kerbs can give almost level boarding for passengers and importantly, for pushchairs and wheelchairs.
The affected bus stops will be temporarily closed while works take place. Notices will be displayed at the stops to warn passengers in advance and advise where they will be able to board the bus during the works.
