Wolds ward councillor David Hasthorpe has been sworn in as the Worshipful Mayor of the Borough of North East Lincolnshire.
Cllr Hasthorpe took over the chains of office at the annual Mayor Making ceremony tonight at Grimsby Auditorium.
Councillor Hasthorpe was elected as Deputy Mayor of North East Lincolnshire in 2019, unusually spending two years in the role due to the coronavirus pandemic.
“I am incredibly honoured to be given this opportunity to represent our borough of North East Lincolnshire.
“There is so much going on in our area that we should be shouting about so I’m keen to spend my year getting out, meeting residents and visiting local charities and organisations, really championing the amazing and wonderful individuals that we have in our area.
“I’ll also be continuing the Mayoral tradition of raising money for some very worthwhile causes. For my Mayoral year, I’ve selected Cat Zero, Andy’s and Harbour Place. These are very deserving causes that do extraordinary work in our local communities to support vulnerable people.
“I’m also eager to meet new businesses as they expand in our area or bring their operations to North East Lincolnshire for the first time. We have a brilliantly diverse community of local and national businesses in our area, showing real confidence in this part of the country.”
Councillor Hasthorpe originally served as a Healing Parish Councillor, taking up the role of Parish Council Chair from October 1999 to February 2017, before being elected as a Ward Councillor in May 2014.
He will also be supported by Mayoress, Mrs Sandra Hasthorpe, and Deputy Mayor, Councillor Stephen Beasant.
