Conservative party chairman Amanda Milling visited Grimsby yesterday to support candidates standing in the upcoming local elections.
Great Grimsby MP Lia Nici wrote on her website: “She came to North East Lincolnshire to have a look at what we’re doing, with North East Lincolnshire Council and myself, the area’s MP, working together. Whilst she was in Grimsby along with council leader Philip Jackson and Councillor Ron Shepherd, we went for a walk around the St James Square area of the minster where regeneration work is just about complete. We also went to the Garth Lane Bridge area and the renovation of the old bus stop. It was important for us to show Amanda the types of changes that are happening in Grimsby.
“It’s great to have support from ministers. They’re always interested to see what’s happening in local areas and to see how they can help. We wanted to showcase the start of some of the work that the Government’s Town Deal funding is doing for Grimsby. We also talked about our aspirations for more and better jobs to improve skills and education in the area.
“We also discussed council priorities, which is obviously making sure that the council is being run effectively, that services are being run in a way that works for everyone, that we’ve got clean streets and that we’ve got effective and growing recycling. A whole range of different issues were discussed and it was a pleasure to show Amanda how Grimsby is progressing.”
