North East Lincolnshire Council and its regeneration partner ENGIE are announcing plans to locate their depot services to one site in the town centre.
NELC and ENGIE currently have two depots for operational services. One site is in Gilbey Road, the other is in Doughty Road.
These sites are for services such as waste and recycling, highway maintenance, fleet management, street cleansing, security, licensing, grounds maintenance and ecology.
NELC and ENGIE want to combine all their depot services in Doughty Road and bring more of their workers into the town centre.
Doughty Road Depot is becoming outdated and will need to be redeveloped to cater for the services that will be based there.
This will result in changes to the site layout, demolishing some of the existing buildings and constructing some new buildings to create a functional, modern depot.
One of the main changes proposed is a new main entrance into Peaks Parkway, at the junction with B&Q and Halfords.
Most vehicles will enter and leave the site via this new entrance, meaning less traffic using the Doughty Road entrance.
Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for Environment and Transport at NELC, said: “Combining our depots on one site will reduce our property maintenance costs, improve service efficiency and provide good quality facilities for the workforce.
“These are proposals at this stage, we need to go through the formal planning process before any work can start.
“We aim to submit a planning application in the next couple of months and, if successful, start work later in the year.
“We are writing to homes and businesses near the depot to let them know about the proposals.”
