Spring comes to Cleethorpes with fun family event

Cleethorpes’ town centre is set to come alive with street entertainers, Saturday market, key cultural activities for families and a street food market later this month.

On Saturday, 21 March, businesses across Cleethorpes will be taking part in a FREE Spring Into Cleethorpes one-day festival to give a boost to spring-time shopping.

Key shopping areas of the town will be filled with demonstrations and activities, and local businesses will have some great in-store offers to bring in customers whilst they are in the town to enjoy the fun. Alongside the event, businesses are being encouraged to get on board and create Spring themed shop windows. You’ll be able to choose your favourite shop window through a Facebook competition alongside independent judges who will choose best dressed window.

In the Market Place, you can come meet well-known children’s character, Peter Rabbit™, who will make appearances at intervals throughout the day and take part in story time sessions led by a narrator. Also in the Market Place, families can enjoy The Bee Colony, an interactive arts installation, as well as market stalls, a street food market by members of the Great Grimsby Food Fight group and musicians.

Meanwhile, as you wander through Cleethorpes, keep your eyes peeled for walkabout street performers around the key shopping areas – look out for Bees, Squirrels, Bob the Butterfly and Gerry the Gerbera along with the Spring King and Queen and the Big Bloomers, our gossipy buds who love a good chinwag.

In Sea View Street, families can enjoy Bewonderment, a cycle powered carousel, performances by The Big Dippers of Rhubarb Theatre, appearances by The Airie Fairies plus music and face painting. Story telling sessions will take place at Petit Delight.

Anna Darnell, of Abode and representing Sea View Quarter traders, said: “All businesses in Sea View Quarter welcome events to the area. We are looking forward to a real family-orientated day and this will kick start what we hope to be a successful and busy summer season. We look forward to welcoming new and old visitors to the street to showcase what a fantastic selection of businesses are based in and around Sea View Street and St Peter’s Avenue. There will be lots going on so get the date in your diaries!”

Nic Till, of Riverhead Coffee, representing St Peter’s Avenue traders, said: “The local traders are really excited about this festival. It’s a great way to kick start the season and a welcome boost to those who have struggled during the improvement works. It will allow us to celebrate the results of that regeneration work and show that we’re ready and able to provide both locals and visitors alike with a fantastic family friendly resort with a lot to offer!”
